Terms of service

Last updated 15 September 2026

This translation is for convenience; the English version is the one that applies.

These terms are the agreement between you and Cheap Recorder when you use the recorder, create an account or buy a plan. They are written in plain words. If anything here is unclear, write to us as shown under Contact.

The service

Cheap Recorder is a screen recorder that runs in Google Chrome. It records your screen, your microphone, your webcam and the sound of a browser tab, writes a live transcript, and helps you edit, convert and publish what you recorded. Your recordings are saved to a folder you choose on your own computer. We do not keep copies of them.

What each plan includes, how many minutes you can record each month, how many AI credits you get and how many devices can use one account at once are shown on the pricing part of the home page and in the recorder.

Your account

  • Give a real name and an email address you can read. You are responsible for keeping your password to yourself and for what happens on your account.
  • Your plan allows a set number of devices at once. Signing in on one more device signs out the one that was used longest ago.
  • You can delete your account yourself from the account menu in the recorder. If you pay by card, cancel the plan first; you can delete the account once the plan has ended. The privacy policy says what is deleted and what is kept.
  • We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. Where we can, we tell you first and say why.

Plans and payment

  • The free plan needs no card and has a monthly limit on recorded minutes.
  • Paid plans are sold monthly, yearly or, where offered, for life. The price and the currency are shown on the checkout page before you pay. A paid plan may start with a free trial; the checkout page shows how long it lasts.
  • Card payments are taken by Stripe. Bank transfers are made through Wise. We never see or store your card number.
  • Where tax applies, it is added at checkout and shown before you pay.
  • Monthly and yearly plans renew automatically at the end of each period, at the price shown when you bought it, until you cancel. If a price changes, we tell you before your next renewal.
  • If you move to another plan, or from monthly to yearly, the change takes effect straight away and you are charged the difference for the rest of the current period.
  • If a renewal payment fails, the plan stays active for a short time while the payment is retried, then ends if it still fails.

Cancelling

Cancel a card-paid plan at any time from Billing and invoices in the recorder's account menu. The plan stays active until the end of the period you have already paid for and then stops renewing. Your recordings are already on your own disk, so you keep all of them.

Lifetime plans

A lifetime plan is paid for once and never renews. You keep the plan, and the monthly minutes and AI credits that come with it, for as long as Cheap Recorder runs. Lifetime means the lifetime of the service, not a fixed number of years. If we ever close the service, we will tell lifetime customers well in advance.

Refunds

  • Money-back guarantee. If a paid plan is not right for you, ask for a refund within 10 days of your first payment for it and we refund that payment in full. You do not need to give a reason.
  • Free trials. If your plan started with a free trial, the 10 days count from the first payment after the trial ends.
  • Yearly renewals. If a yearly plan renews and you did not mean to keep it, ask within 10 days of the renewal payment and we refund it in full.
  • Monthly renewals are not refunded. Cancel at any time and the plan stays active until the end of the month you have paid for.
  • Lifetime plans have the same 10-day guarantee, counted from the day you buy.
  • Charges made by mistake, such as a double charge or a charge after you cancelled, are always refunded in full, whenever you tell us.
  • How to ask: use Support in the recorder, or write to us as shown under Contact, from the email address on your account.
  • How the money comes back: the way you paid. Card payments go back to the card, and payments made through Wise go back by bank transfer. A card refund usually shows on your statement within 5 to 10 working days.
  • After a full refund the plan ends and your account moves to the free plan. Your recordings stay on your own computer.
  • We may refuse a refund when the same person buys and refunds plans again and again.

Your rights under the consumer law where you live are not affected by this section. If that law gives you longer to cancel or to ask for your money back, for example 14 days in the European Union and the United Kingdom, the longer time applies.

Recording other people

The recorder can capture other people: the other side of a call, people on camera and anyone whose voice is picked up. You are responsible for recording lawfully. Tell people when they are being recorded, ask for consent where the law requires it, and follow the rules of your workplace and of the meeting service you use. Do not record anything you are not allowed to record.

Fair use

  • Do not use the service to break the law, to harass anyone, or to record, publish or share material you have no right to.
  • Do not try to get around plan limits, sign-in, or device limits, and do not attempt to break into, overload or copy the service.
  • Convert sends a file to our server to change its format, and the AI buttons send your transcript to our AI provider. Use them only for your own recordings or recordings you have the right to process.

Your recordings and your words

Everything you record belongs to you. We do not claim any rights in your recordings, transcripts or edits. Files sent to Convert are deleted as soon as the conversion finishes. Support messages and the files attached to them are kept as the privacy policy describes.

Changes to the service

We improve the recorder often, and features may change. If we remove a feature that a paid plan lists, we tell customers on that plan first. We aim to keep the service available at all times but cannot promise that it will never be interrupted.

Our responsibility

The recorder writes your recordings to your own disk, so keep your own backups of anything that matters. We are not responsible for recordings lost on your computer, or for losses caused by events outside our control. Where the law allows, our total responsibility to you for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits responsibility that the law does not allow to be limited.

Changes to these terms

If we change these terms, we update the date at the top of this page. For a change that affects what you pay or what your plan includes, we tell you before it applies to you.
