About Cheap Recorder

Cheap Recorder is a screen recorder that runs in Google Chrome, made for people who just want to press record and get a good file out of it.

What it does

It records your screen, your microphone, your webcam and the other side of a call, all at once, into one MP4 file. While you record, it writes a live transcript. Afterwards you can cut filler words from the transcript, add captions, convert the file to another format, and hand the result over as a single page with the video and its transcript.

It works on macOS, Windows and Linux, wherever Google Chrome runs. On a phone, it comes as an Android app.

Why it costs less

Most of what other recorders charge for is hosting: keeping your videos on their servers. Cheap Recorder does not do that. Every recording is written straight to a folder you pick on your own computer, so there is nothing for us to store and nothing to charge you for keeping. There is no sales team either. The prices on the home page come straight from the same settings that run the recorder, so what you see is what you pay.

Your files stay yours

Recordings never leave your computer unless you choose to send one: Convert sends a file to our server to change its format and deletes it as soon as that is done, and the AI buttons send a transcript only when you press one. The privacy policy lists everything we collect and who else handles it, and the terms of service set out the rules for accounts, plans and payments.

Who runs it

Cheap Recorder is a small independent product, built and supported by the people who use it every day.

Learn the recorder

The guides walk through the jobs people use it for most: recording a Google Meet or Teams call, a podcast with every voice on its own track, a course with your webcam in the corner, and more.
