Cheap Recorder is a screen recorder that runs in Google Chrome. This page says, in plain words, what we collect, where it goes, how long we keep it and what you can do about it.

What we collect

  • Your account: your name, email address, plan, trial and billing status, and when you joined. Your password is never stored as you typed it, only as a scrambled one-way hash.
  • Your sign-in: a sign-in code kept in your browser and on our server. It lasts up to 30 days, or until you sign out.
  • Usage: how many minutes you record and how many AI credits you use each month, so your plan's limits work.
  • An activity log: what happens in the recorder, for example that a recording started, the folder and file names you chose and the names of your microphones, with your browser's version. We use it to help you and to fix problems.
  • Support messages you send us from the recorder, and any files you attach to them (screenshots, documents, logs, short clips). Attached files are stored privately with Amazon Web Services (Amazon S3); only you and our staff can open them.

We do not record your IP address in our own records. Our hosting provider may keep standard server logs, which can include it.

Your recordings

  • Recordings are saved to a folder you choose on your own computer. We do not keep copies.
  • Convert: when you use it, the file is sent to our server to be converted and is deleted as soon as that finishes.
  • Narration: the text you type is sent to our server to make the voice.
  • Transcripts are made by Chrome's own speech recognition, which Google may process on its servers under Google's privacy policy.
  • AI features: when you press an AI button, your transcript, with the speaker names, is sent to Anthropic to produce the result. Nothing is sent unless you press one.

Payments

  • Card payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card number. Stripe receives your name, email and chosen plan, and may ask for your billing address for tax. We keep Stripe's reference numbers, your subscription status and your invoice numbers.
  • Wise transfers: you pay on Wise. We keep the amount, the currency and the reference on the transfer.
  • For every checkout we keep the plan, amount, status and dates.

Advertising and cookies

  • Every page for visitors, the recorder included, carries the Google Ads tag, which tells Google Ads when someone arrives from one of our ads. It can set Google's advertising cookies; if you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, it sets none.
  • Every page for visitors, the recorder included, also carries Google Analytics, which counts visits and shows us which pages people use. It can set Google Analytics cookies; if you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, it sets none.
  • Anyone can turn off personalised ads in Google's ad settings.
  • Our website and the recorder show no ads.
  • We set no tracking cookies of our own. The recorder keeps your sign-in, theme, camera and microphone choices and background picture, and every page keeps the language you picked, in your browser's storage, on your device. The only cookie we set is the sign-in for our own staff pages.
  • The home, checkout and payment pages load fonts from Google Fonts, so Google receives your IP address when they load.

Who else handles data

  • Render hosts our website and database.
  • Stripe and Wise handle payments.
  • Anthropic runs the AI features, only when you press one.
  • Google runs Google Ads, Google Analytics, Google Fonts and Chrome's speech recognition.

We do not sell your personal data.

How long we keep it

  • Account details: until you delete your account.
  • Sign-ins: up to 30 days.
  • Files sent to Convert: deleted as soon as the conversion finishes.
  • Support conversations: the most recent 1,000 conversations; closed ones are removed first.
  • Files attached to support messages: until you delete your account.
  • Payment records: kept for our accounts.
  • The activity log: while your account exists.

When you delete your account, or we remove it, your account, sign-ins, usage, support messages, the files attached to them and your activity log are deleted straight away. Payment records are kept, with your name and email, for our accounts.

Your rights and choices

  • Delete your account yourself from the account menu in the recorder. If you pay by card, cancel the plan in Billing and invoices first; you can delete your account once it has ended.
  • You can ask us for a copy of your data, or to correct it. Contact us as shown below.
  • You can change your ad choice as described under Advertising and cookies.
  • If you are in the EEA or the UK, you can complain to your data protection authority, for example the ICO in the UK.
